The cold nights may have left you feeling a little deflated – but fear not, as there are several holiday destinations to jet off to in March for some winter sun
It’s that time of year when the cold nights may have left you feeling a little deflated – and you might be in need of some winter sun to brighten your mood.
While most people jet away in summer or later in the year, it could be smart to get away earlier in the year and potentially save money in the process. Many enjoy city breaks or ski trips at this time of year, but if you’re craving a bit of vitamin D then booking a holiday in one of these warm and sunshine-filled destinations could be the perfect fix for the winter blues.
There are several destinations which see warm weather in March, so whether it’s a well needed fun break with your friends, special family time, a solo adventure or romantic break, you’re bound to see blue skies and warm temperatures. Travel agent and holiday content creator, Eva, who is better known as @_evasworld, has advised the best destinations to travel to.
Canary Islands

From Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Lazaroe, Gran Canaria, Las Palmas, El Hiero and La Grociosa, there is so much to explore in the Canary Islands.
Tenerife and Gran Canaria are among the cheapest Canary Islands to fly to, depending on your departure airport and travel date. You can spend time exploring volcanic landscapes like Mount Teide, relax on beautiful beaches, enjoy waterparks like Siam Park, and experience fantastic food and bustling night life.
For those who love being by the water, take a boat tour to see marine life off the coast of the Canary Islands. In March, travellers to these islands can expect high temperatures of 22C.
TUI has reported: “There is a 67% chance of a perfect sunny day and a 33% chance of seeing some clouds, with on average 2mm of rainfall this month. It’s possible to swim in the sea at this time of year but it’s generally a little too cool for most. The average sea temperature is 18C.”
Eva commented: “Tenerife is usually the warmest out of all of them this time of year, followed by Gran Canaria and then Fuerteventura and Lanzarote but they’re all still hot and they’re still all mid twenties.”
She also highlighted that there are some great deals available in March for the Canary Islands. Skyscanner offers some fantastic flight deals from £27.
Algarve
Next on Eva’s list for ideal March holiday spots is Algarve in Portugal. She mentioned: “It’s only about a three hour flight away and temperatures are around 20 degrees.”
My Portugal Holiday reports: “Southern Portugal will always have the best weather in March, with the Algarve enjoying pleasant daytime temperatures reaching 19C. While too cool for sunbathing and beach holidays, this weather is ideal for activities like hiking, cycling and golf.”
Algarve town is the perfect spot for exploring the old town with a small castle, numerous churches, and an indoor market. Go for a hike and explore the Mina Sal-Gema rock salt mine, or take a boat trip to do some dolphin-spotting.
Flights to Faro depart from several UK airports, and upon arrival there is around a 40 minute transfer.
Morocco
Morocco is an excellent destination for solo travellers, couples, or groups of friends. It offers a range of attractions including the Sahara Desert, the Atlas Mountains, and cities such as Marrakesh and Fes.
The country is steeped in history and is famous for its bustling souks. It’s also an ideal location for year-round sunshine and all-inclusive beach holidays.
Flights from the UK to Morocco typically take between 3 hours 15 minutes and 3 hours 55 minutes, depending on the chosen airport. Upon arrival, visitors can expect sunny weather with temperatures reaching the mid-20s.
“It can get pretty hot,” Eva commented. TUI reports: “In March, Morocco enjoys an abundance of sunshine with long, clear days. The country experiences an average of 9-10 hours of sunshine per day, providing ample opportunity for outdoor activities and exploration.”
Cyprus
If you’re considering a trip to Cyprus, you can also expect temperatures in the mid-20s.
If you enjoy being active during your holiday, March is an excellent time to visit. You can explore the ancient remains in Nea Pafos, or visit the Agios Neophytos Monastery museum.
Animal enthusiasts can visit Pafos Zoo, and on hot days, families can enjoy the Paphos Aphrodite Waterpark. For shopping, try the Kings Avenue Mall in central Paphos.
Additionally, the Limassol Carnival usually takes place in March, two weeks before the Greek Orthodox Lenten period. This colourful 10-day event features impressive parades, eating, singing, dancing, games, costumes, and parties throughout Limassol.
Eva issued a note and said: “Just be mindful that not everything is open in March, their season kind of starts in April. If you’re in a resort and want to go out, not much is going to be open because it’s off season.”
Cape Verde
Eva remarked: “Similar to the Canary Islands, Cape Verde is pretty much hot all year round but it’s very windy. Temperatures are mid 20s and the prices in March are a lot lower than they are in summertime, so it’s a good time to go.”
The West African nation of Cape Verde entices with its magnificent beaches, dynamic cultures, and awe-inspiring landscapes. Adventure seekers can delve into the volcanic terrain of Fogo or soak in Mindelo’s vibrant music scene.
With March known for its breeziness, it’s an opportune moment for wind-powered sports such as windsurfing and kitesurfing on islands like Boa Vista and Sal, and visitors will enjoy lesser crowds too. For those considering flights from the UK, the cost tends to range between £250 and £400, fluctuating based on booking time and departure location.
